TikTok creators have been reading Reddit threads aloud for years. Reddit finally decided to build the format inside the app.
On Monday the company began testing audio and video versions of select posts, with AI voices narrating the original thread and top comments. A Read/Play toggle sits at the top when the feature is enabled. The text thread underneath stays intact. Comments still work.
TechCrunch reported the rollout across web first, with iOS and Android following.
What Reddit is actually shipping
This is not a separate TikTok clone tab yet. It is an optional layer on existing posts in chosen communities.

The archive economics
Reddit's moat is not video production talent. It is billions of comments written in authentic voices over 20 years. Long text threads are a poor fit for vertical video unless something reads them aloud.
